Wooden shoe for Jonas (2/4)
after spending part of the summer of 2010 back in holland I brought back 4 wooden shoes that I had illustrated on as souvenirs for my friends in denmark — this is the one I did for my friend Jonas. (more photos on flickr)
as Jonas is a straight-edge kid mildly obsessed with vintage sailing themes I thought it a good plan to draw inspiration from those topics — the smashed syringe and bottle refer to the no-drugs/no-alcohol ideology of the straight-edge subculture as does the cross on the front (initially used on hands of underage kids to mark them as not allowed to buy beer at concerts).
all drawings done with a black ballpoint pen only (and a little india ink for the cross on the front).
